EKU students have the unique opportunity to perform with award-winning ensembles that are regularly invited to perform at national and international festivals and competitions. EKU music students study with nationally recognized award-winning faculty, guest artists, and clinicians. Approximately 350 undergraduate and graduate music students along with students drawn from a general enrollment of 18,000 perform in music ensembles at EKU.
Students should contact the director of their preferred ensemble to arrange an audition. Auditions are scheduled at the beginning of each semester and scholarships are awarded to talented musicians. Scholarship auditions may be arranged by contacting the appropriate applied faculty member. Some ensembles have instruments available for students to use free of charge. Please use the ensemble links on this page to contact ensemble directors for more audition and scholarship information. For example, students interested in participating with the EKU Wind Symphonic/Concert Band should contact Dr. Andrew Putnam, director of EKU Bands. Students interested in the EKU Marching Band should contact Dr. Andrew Putnam, director of EKU Bands. Students interested in performing with vocal ensembles at EKU should contact Dr. Richard Waters, director of EKU Choirs. The EKU Symphony Orchestra is under the baton of Mr. Jeremy Mulholland and students should contact him to arrange an audition to join our orchestra. The EKU Jazz Ensemble is directed by Dr. Larry Nelson, director of Jazz Studies at EKU, and the EKU Guitar Ensemble is directed by Dr. Dennis Davis. As may be seen in the menu on the left, many other ensembles are available to students at EKU. Please contact the directors of those ensembles to arrange an audition or to request more information.
