All these works are published by Eighth Note Publications, which is exclusively distributed by Alfred Publishing, an internationally acclaimed music publishing company.  These works will add to Dr. Byrd’s published total of 30 music compositions since he has been faculty at EKU.  Challenging Duets, Volume 1, is a set of 5 jazz duets for players of multiple combinations of instruments (as shown above), with the purpose of providing players challenging jazz duets based on the chord changes to standard jazz tunes.  Players can program these works on recitals and concerts with a live rhythm section or by using the on-line website jazzstandards.com play-a-long jazz accompaniment.  Inspirations for the compositions were a result of Dr. Byrd having attended the Jazz Education Network in New Orleans, LA at the beginning of his sabbatical.
