Bio

Dr. Rachel Taylor has been teaching piano professionally for over 26 distinguished years. Her students have won honors at numerous competitions, including the MTNA-Yamaha High School Piano Competition, the Des Moines Symphony Competition, the Terrace Hill Endowment Competition, the Pella-Rollscreen Competition, the Prelude and Fugue Level of the Lexington Bach Competition, the Marsh Piano Competition, and numerous regional and state competitions. Her students have been selected to attend the Governor’s School for the Arts and the prestigious Indiana University Piano Academy. Dr. Taylor currently serves as an Adjunct Professor of Piano at Eastern Kentucky University. She also operates a private piano studio in Georgetown, Kentucky, and serves as the pianist and organist at Georgetown First United Methodist Church. Dr. Taylor has served on the faculties of the Preparatory Division of the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, Transylvania University, Grinnell College, Coe College, Cornell College, and the Preucil School of Music. Dr. Taylor earned her Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Iowa, her Master of Music from Northwestern University, and her Bachelor of Music from Eastern Kentucky University. Her major teachers include Daniel Shapiro, Arthur Rowe, David Kaiserman, Elizabeth Pastor, Paul Schenly, Roe Van Boskirk, Rebecca Shockley, Kenneth Amada, and Howard Abel. Dr. Taylor specializes in piano pedagogy, having studied with Francis Larimer, Elvina Truman Pearce, Carol Thomas, Rebecca Shockley, and Mary Craig Powell. Dr. Taylor was selected as the 2019 Teacher of the Year by the Kentucky Music Teachers Association.
